Rooney Mara is fantastic in this delicate, sun-soaked Western

Film review: Wadjda

Every now and then, a film comes along that changes the world. Sometimes, you don't even realise it's doing it.

World War H – or hate’s not all that

What do Shyamalan, World War Z and Man of Steel have in common? Hype - and hate.

Like Crazy London Film Festival Felicity Jones red carpet

It's a scientifically proven fact that Felicity Jones is awesome. Chalet Girl, Cemetery Junction, Dr Who - there's nothing she can do wrong. She even made The Archers awesome when she was a teen. You just have to look at the response she's been getting for Like Crazy (a Sundance Festival hit) to realise that she's heading for big things very soon.

A painful tale of a long-distance romance between Jacob (Anton Yelchin) and Anna (Jones), Like Crazy has been hailed by many folks (I annoyingly still haven't seen it) as a non-cliched indie flick with a natural charm. So it was good to get a chance to holler some brief questions at the Chalet Girl star and director Drake Doremus as they strolled past Leicester Square's glamorous construction work and into the Vue West End for Like Crazy's European Premiere.

Of course, it didn't take me long to come up with questions for her. They mostly went something like this.

But my Felicity Jones crush aside, here are six things we learned on the Like Crazy red carpet (not including the discovery that other people share my love of Chalet Girl):

1. Felicity Jones has green eyes

She does. Two of them. And they're both awesome.

2. Felicity Jones filmed herself in the shower and sent the video to a stranger

It's not standard practise for the actress to videotape herself in the shower and send the wet footage to a bloke she's never met. But she did it for Like Crazy. Why? "I just loved the tone of it. As soon as I read the script, I just felt an affinity with the character and with what Drake was trying to achieve."

Unsurprisingly, the video did the trick:

"She got in the shower and framed the camera on her face. It’s a non-dialogue scene and she went through the emotions of the character. And it absolutely blew me away. I cast her straight away without even meeting her."

So remember, kids: sending videotapes of yourself in the bathroom is OK. But only if they're a real film director (hint: check if they're on IMDb).

3. Felicity Jones is in another movie by Drake Doremus

Yes, she's so brilliant that the director snapped her up for his next project. "We just shot a movie this summer in New York - that’ll be done in the Spring. It’s great to continue to work with her and explore different things."

Can you blame him? And did I mention those green eyes?

4. Felicity Jones can improvise

Like Crazy's natural feel and believable chemistry between its leads came from an improv-heavy script. It wasn't something the Chalet Girl was used to, but she's proven she can add it to her list of talents:

"I just wanted to do something very naturalistic and doing improvisation was something I had never counted before, so it was trying to do something new that would be challenging."

5. Felicity Jones is a level-headed girl

For an actress whose career is sky-rocketing right now (she turned down Snow White opposite Julia Roberts because she was in a play in London's West End), Felicity Jones is doing an impressive job of staying completely level-headed about it all:

"It’s been pretty insane! I’m just trying to enjoy it really. With Like Crazy, people have responded so well to it, it’s so nice to be passionate about something and be rewarded by people liking it."

And finally, to prove that this article isn't just about Felicity Jones, here's a bonus fact:

6. Drake Doremus can totally pull off a purple suit and pink shirt

Now that's a talent in itself.
