Every now and then, a film comes along that changes the world. Sometimes, you don't even realise it's doing it.

Tony Curtis has passed away, aged 85. The Oscar-nominated actor, whose real name was Bernard Schwartz, was most famous for his role in Some Like It Hot.

He displayed true talent opposite Marilyn Monroe and Jack Lemmon in Billy Wilder's comedy, but it was for The Defiant Ones that he received his Academy Award nomination in 1959.

Born in 1925, Curtis had his onscreen debut in 1948's Criss Cross. He married six times during his life, eventually focussing on painting instead of acting.

His daughter Jamie Lee Curtis confirmed Curtis' passing, but provided no further details.

RIP Tony Curtis. You were as convincing a woman as you were a Cary Grant impersonator.
