No, it's not still not decided who will be playing Peter Parker in the Spider-Man reboot, but after months of rumours and speculation, there's now an end in sight. Yes, Sony and Columbia have got themselves an official shortlist. And because we all love lists, here it is:
Logan Lerman
Jamie Bell
Anton Yelchin
Aaron Johnson
Andrew Garfield
Alden Ehrenreich
As you may have guessed from the picture on the right, the official i-Flicks pick for the part is Logan Lerman - last seen on screen as the disturbingly buff Percy Jackson. Sure, Anton Yelchin had charm in both Star Trek and Terminator, but it's hard to see him top the likeable Logan (also in 3:10 to Yuma), who seems closer to the desired teen age than Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot himself). It's also easy to separate him from fellow breakout superhero Kick-Ass, which will define Aaron Johnson for a few years to come. Meanwhile, Andrew Garfield (of Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus fame) and Alden Ehrenreich (from Tetro) really don't convince as possibilities. No offence to either of them.
With Marc (500) Days of Summer Webb at the helm, Sony are clearly aiming for big bucks with their 3-D reboot, already locking in the movie to shoot this year. Jamie Vanderbilt's script is ready to take us back to Peter Parker's high-school roots, so all Sony need is a guy to sling from the rooftops. Then they can work out the rest of the cast. Harry Potter's Frank Dillane was also apparently in with a shout, but he opted out for drama school instead. He's probably the smartest guy in the whole bunch.
