That was Jeremy Renner back in November talking to Empire about comic book character Hawkeye. But now it's confirmed that Renner is ready to play Clint Barton, part-time archer and full-time supporting hero in The Avengers.

He joins the list of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, War Machine, Black Widow, Nick Fury and Hulk - a group captained by Joss Whedon. It's due in 2012, but better news than this is that Renner's also eyeing up a role in Paul Thomas Anderson's next film. Hawkeye or not, Renner's rising star is cooking some serious shizzle.
