Iron Man Three Review

It's not a superhero movie. It's a Shane Black movie with superheroes in it. And that makes it awesome.

Casa de Mi Padre review
Director: Matt Piedmont
Cast: Will Ferrell, Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna, Genesis Rodriguez
Certificate: 15
UK Trailer

Will Ferrell no puede hablar Español.

UPDATE: TWO Anchorman 2 teaser trailers have turned up - the second a lot funnier than the first.

In other news, I love Brick.

Witches

Out of all the new film posters to hit the internet this week, only one dares to stand up with a scotch in its hand, surrounded by many leather bound books, and say: "I'm Ron Burgundy?"

Anchorman 2 one-sheet poster

Hell. Yes. Now to travel to the US, where the trailer is playing in front of The Dictator.

Would you vote for Will Ferrell? He's been North Carolina's Congressman for four terms in a row. He has hair that's strong enough to lift a car. And, The Campaign's UK trailer reveals, he also punches babies.

Zach Galifianakis and Will Ferrell go to the ballot box on Friday 28th September. And if you ignore Jason Sudeikis, it could be quite entertaining. Although I'd much rather vote for Ron Burgundy. Where's that Anchorman 2 trailer already?

Armando Alvarez (Will Ferrell) has lived and worked on his father's ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armando's younger brother Raul (Diego Luna), shows up with his new fiancée, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez).

It seems that Raul's success as an international businessman means the ranch's troubles are over as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexico's most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael García Bernal).

Crimes and Misdemeanors, Woody Allen BFI season

“Let me tell you a story and you tell me, is it material for a comedy or a tragedy?”

The starting point for Melinda and Melinda is the opening for every Woody Allen movie. As a director who finds comedy in the depressing and futile meaningless of life, Allen’s best work features comedy that stems from serious drama. Hannah and Her Sisters. The Purple Rose of Cairo. Husbands and Wives. Manhattan.

That duality is something that Allen openly confronts in binary titles. Crimes and Misdemeanors. Melinda and Melinda. Even Love and Death highlights the contrast between the silliness of farce and the philosophy of Chekhov. It’s when the director steps away from this balance that he starts to falter - see the Bergman-inspired Interiors, or the melodramatic Match Point, which expands one half of Crimes and Misdemeanours into a full feature-length narrative.

And so, as the BFI Woody Allen season continues, here are some thoughts on two of Woody’s most explicitly binary movies.

Everything Must Go review - Will Ferrell
Director: Dan Rush
Cast: Will Ferrell, Rebecca Hall, CJ Wallace, Laura Dern
Certificate: 15

Recovering alcoholic Nick Halsey (Ferrell) has just lost his job and all his worldly possessions are lying on his front lawn. To top it off, he’s got a note from his wife that says she’s leaving him. Luckily, in among his armoury he has a big comfy chair, a rotisserie cooker and a George Foreman grill. And beer. Lots of beer.

Completely off the wagon and living in front of his house, the police tell Nick that the only way he can legally leave all his crap on his lawn is to have a yard sale. He has five days.

Director: Adam McKay
Cast: Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Michael Keaton, Steve Coogan, Eva Mendes
Certificate: 15

If you don't like Will, you won't like this - that's pretty much the standard maxim for all of Ferrell's comedies. When he comes up with turkeys like Land of the Lost, it throws that way off. Here, though, he's back with writer-director Adam McKay, the man responsible for Anchorman and the very amusing Talladega Nights. It's not quite on a par with the legend of Ron Burgundy, but The Other Guys still breaks out the hilarity in pretty constant doses.

Cinema's new odd couple, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, descended upon London last night for the premiere of Adam McKay's cop comedy, The Other Guys. Leicester Square was cordoned off by police tape as the two unlikely detectives walked the beat down the carpet to the sound of screaming fans.

Despite their arguments over who would win in a fight between a lion and a tuna, the two stars were more than happy to take time out to say hi to the crowds. Looking dapper in their suits (especially Will Ferrell with his afro and sideburns), they were joined by Eva Mendes and Anchorman director McKay to brave London's glorious rain.

The Other Guys sees paperwork-lover Alan Gamble and mentally unhinged Terry Hoitz take the frontline in crime-fighting when the real cops are taken out of the picture. They're incompetent, annoying and drive around in a Toyota Prius.

Fortunately Ferrell and Wahlberg didn't turn up in the Prius last night. Even more fortunate than that, no-one was threatening to jump off any nearby buildings.

The Other Guys is in cinemas on Friday 17th September (our review's over here). Read on to see the water-logged glamour of the premiere for yourself in our lovely rain-soaked video.
